Identity checks: when we ask and why

Small swaps need no sign-up in most countries. We ask for an identity check above your country's limits, or before any swap when we cannot tell where you are.

Updated

In most countries there is no limit for swaps without an identity check, apart from each pair's maximum. Some countries have their own rules, listed in our compliance policy.

When we ask

  • Before you send, if the swap would take you over your limit. The deposit address appears once you are verified, so your coins cannot get stuck.
  • After a deposit, if it turns out to be above your limit. We hold it and you have until the deadline on your order page to verify. If you do not, it is refunded.
  • Before any swap, if we cannot tell which country you are in, for example when you connect through Tor.

How the 30-day total is counted

There are no accounts behind this. The total counts swaps from the same device and connection, and swaps that use the same payout, refund or sending addresses. Refunded swaps do not count.

What we ask for

A photo of your identity document and a short selfie, taken on the secure page of our verification partner, Didit. It takes a few minutes, and you come back to your order when it is done. You must be at least 18. We keep a masked record of the result: your initials, your country, the document type, the last four characters of its number and whether you are an adult. Didit keeps the full record, as the law requires.

If a check is not approved, deposits held for it are refunded.
