What confirmations are

A confirmation is a new block added after the one that holds your transaction. We wait for a set number on each network before we treat a deposit as final.

Updated

Blockchains record transactions in blocks. When your transaction is in a block, it has one confirmation, and each later block adds another. The more confirmations a transaction has, the harder it is to reverse.

We exchange a deposit only after it reaches the number of confirmations we require for its network. Until then your order shows Confirming with a count, such as 1 of 2.

Why the numbers differ

Networks make blocks at different speeds, and on some a recent block is more likely to be replaced. We wait longer where a reversal is more likely. The counts are part of our risk policy and may change if a network has problems.

If your deposit does not confirm

A transaction sent with a fee that is too low can wait a long time. Once we have seen it, we keep watching it for up to 72 hours, and the swap continues when it confirms. Some wallets let you speed up a stuck transaction by raising its fee.

If it still has not confirmed after 72 hours, the network has most likely dropped or replaced it, and your order shows the deposit as failed. If the coins did leave your wallet, contact support with the transaction id.
